The Story:
The Girl, The City, The Magi (a bedtime story) is a modern, urban fairy tale. A small girl with a pure heart and big dreams is visited by mystical wise men, who offer her three gifts to make 'her dreams come true.' Their visit launches The Girl's frantic quest to literally become an 'overnight success' on the streets of The City. Will she succeed? Will she fail? One thing is certain, The Girl takes The City by storm.

Music is in the air. Fame and fortune are everywhere. On concert posters in laundromats. On televisions in distant flats. Magazines. Radio. Viral internet video. Today, (with apologies to Mr. Warhol) anyone can become famous in fifteen minutes, right? Can youthful idealism make it so? In a manner that feels remarkably timeless and classic, using poetry, music and simple illustration, The Girl, The City, The Magi (a bedtime story) aims to find out.
The Girl, The City, The Magi (a bedtime story) was co-authored by Laura Gerhiser Hensel and Greg Brehm. The story behind the story nicely parallels the lessons taught in The Girl. Read about it here.
The Short Film

"This is a full-blown professional triumph.
Wonderful visuals. Strong content in a story
set and sung well to good music. Good
character design and animation.
Great color scheme."

Frank Mouris - Producer and Director of the Oscar Winning Animated Short, Frank Film, "the most celebrated American Short."

Narrated, in verse and song, by the West Coast Blues Hall of Fame's "Blues Vocalist of the Year," Artwork Jamal, and voiced by Marci Heit, the story comes alive.  With music by Sandra Sandia and Emmy winning composer / producer, Allan Phillips, it literally sings.  Providing a retro feel and a simple but striking color pallette, Producer, Director and Animator Greg Brehm has created a new and special world for this light, fun and touching adventure.

The Graphic Novel

"On a tiny block of a quiet street,
with matching houses, orderly and neat,
where the grass grows slow, and daydreams swirl,
under trees, with restless leaves ...lived The Girl."
These words welcome you to a special world of possibilities, and kick off the adventure that is The Girl, The City, The Magi (a bedtime story).
The graphic novel adaptation deftly weaves together the story and wonderful poetic language, and captures the burst of energy of the short film in its clever and lively illustrations. Like the movie, the graphic novel feels "old school," yet it provides a perfect vehicle for making a "modern" fairy tale come to life.
